Light Planted in the Tzaddik

A teaching ofRav Gedalia Schorrהרב גדליה בן אברהם שור

Rav Schorr often spoke about zeria, planting. The deeds of the Avos were like seeds planted long ago that bore fruit in their descendants. He read the verse about light planted for the tzaddik as teaching that spiritual illumination does not flash and vanish like lightning. It takes root in a fitting host and keeps growing in him, producing ever higher levels. His own talmidim saw this in themselves. The ideas he planted often seemed hard to grasp, even tedious, at first, but after steady care they took root unseen and yielded rich crops that continue to be replanted and harvested.
