Three gifts that come through difficulty
Rebbi Shimon bar Yochai taught that Hashem gave the Jewish people three precious gifts, and each of them is acquired only through hardship: the Torah, Eretz Yisroel, and the World to Come. His lesson is that struggle is not a sign that something has gone wrong. Precisely the most valuable things in a Jew's life are the ones that cost effort and pain, and the difficulty itself refines a person so that he becomes a fitting vessel for the gift.
