Faith and Love Unite Every Mitzvah
Emunah & bitachonTorah learning
Rav Yaakov Yosef taught that when a mitzvah is done with full faith, with dveikus (attachment to Hashem) and with delight, it contains within it all 248 positive and 365 negative commandments. Chazal say that Chavakuk came and established all the mitzvos on one principle, “A righteous person shall live by his faith.” Just as the heart gives life to every limb, the commandment of faith is the source and root of all 248 positive commandments. It is an aspect of the commandment “Anochi Hashem Elokecha,” the source of them all. Faith is also love, the root of all things, and when a mitzvah contains both faith and love, the one who fulfills it merits life in the next world, as the Rambam writes in his commentary to the Mishnah at the end of Makkos.
