Jewish Unity
Ahavas Yisroel
A teaching ofRav Menachem Mendel Schneersonהרב מנחם מנדל בן לוי יצחק שניאורסון
The mitzvah of ahavas Yisroel is a great principle of the Torah. It points to the oneness of all Yidden, who form a single entity, so that whatever any Jew does, for good or otherwise, matters to the whole people. Every Jew, even one alone in the most remote corner of the world, is part of the whole Jewish people and its representative. Dividing the Jewish people into Orthodox, Conservative, Reform and the like is artificial, because all share one Torah from one Hashem, even if some observe more and some less. If you meet a Jew who loves Hashem but not Torah and the Jewish people, tell him his love will not last. If you meet one who loves the Jewish people but not Hashem or Torah, work with him to fan that love, and it will grow into a lasting love of Hashem, Torah and Yidden.
